From a total of over 87,000 applicants, East Greenwich High School Senior, Grace Miner has become one of 150 national Coca-Cola Scholars! In listing the reasons she was selected, the Coca-Cola company sited Grace's passion, commitment and active roll being a positive change-agent in our school and community, as well as being an outstanding student.

As a member of the 2016 class of Coca-Cola Scholars, Grace will receive a $20,000 scholarship award, renewable annually at $5,000, for 4 years of study at any accredited U.S. college or university of her choice. Grace is also invited to attend Scholars Weekend in Atlanta, where she and other scholars will be honored at the Coca-Cola Scholars Banquet at the Georgia International Convention Center.

In addition to the banquet, the weekend will include participation in Coca-Cola's Leadership Development Institute, a leadership training that challenges participants to develop an inside-out leadership philosophy. Scholars Weekend is rounded out by tours of local landmarks in Atlanta, seminars by alumni and staff, and a group community service project.

As a recipient of this award Grace was also asked to select a teacher as a "Educator of Distinction". An Educator of Distinction is "someone from your high school who has greatly impacted your vision of education". Ms. Miner has selected English Department Chair, Mrs. Karen Izzo as the EGHS recipient. In addition to the knowledge gained through her instruction over the course of four years at EGHS, Grace also selected Mrs. Izzo because "I could never have completed the long application and interview process without her guidance and help!"

On behalf of the entire EGHS community, I congratulate Grace and her family on receiving this prestigious scholarship.
