We are delighted to inform you that you have some very talented students, Samantha and Gabriella Shorr, who will be performing at PPAC alongside our professional ballet company in The Nutcracker this December.  They have both gone above and beyond, participating in hours of rehearsals in addition to ballet classes and a full academic schedule.  Congratulations to East Greenwich High School.  We hope to see you at the show.

Commended Students

The Principal, Michael J. Podraza, of East Greenwich High School formally announced today the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students.

About 34,000 Commended Students are being recognized throughout the nation for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, these Commended Students can take great pride knowing that they placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTⓇ).

East Greenwich High School students Sarah J. Brusini, Caroline L. Cheng, Jonathan G. Duke, Yujung So, Ravi A. Somvanshi, Benjamin R. Weinstein, Michelle S. Yu and Lila M. Zarrella have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.  A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

EGHS Named National Blue Ribbon School for 2018

Good afternoon. Today East Greenwich High School was designated as an “Exemplary High Performing Blue Ribbon School for 2018’ by the US Department of Education. We are honored by this recognition which, according to USDOE publication, was last attained by EGHS in 1983-84. The achievement of award is a testament to the years of hard work and excellence that countless students, faculty, staff, parents, and administrators have strived to achieve every day-- both inside and outside of the classroom. It is a wonderful tribute and validation of the efforts we take to achieve our mission to “take risks in order to inspire learning and discover passions.”

It is my honor as principal of East Greenwich High School to thank everyone in our community for their support of our students, our school, and our mission. Without your unwavering support this award would not be possible.

The full press release from the US Department of Education can be found here and the press release from the Rhode Island Department of Education can be found here.

Congratulations to all Avengers. Well done!
