Administrators’ Association Announces 2016 Award Recipients
Athletic Director of the Year
Chris Cobain became the Director of Athletics/Assistant Principal for East Greenwich Public Schools on October 5th 2009. He currently serves as the President Elect for the RI Interscholastic Athletic Administrators’ Association and serves as the Awards Committee Chair. He has been an RIIAAA Executive Board Member since 2012. He serves as a State Delegate for Rhode Island as part of the Section 1 at the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association meetings. Chris serves on several RI Interscholastic League Sport Committees including Boys Basketball, Boys & Girls Volleyball, Golf and Field Hockey. Chris also continues his progress towards Certification as a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) through his participation in Leadership Training Course work on the state and national level. He has attended NIAAA Conferences in Nashville (2016) and Orlando (2015) as well as many Massachusetts/Rhode Island IAAA Conferences in Hyannis, MA.
Prior to his position at EGHS, Chris has held the following positions over his 18 year educational career.
Exeter West Greenwich HS Business Educator: 1998 to 2005
Exeter West Greenwich HS Assistant Principal : 2005 to 2007
EWG Varsity Boys Basketball Coach: 2001 to 2008 (Executive Board: 2002 to 2008)
Lincoln Middle School Assistant Principal: 2007 to 2009
Some accomplishments that have occurred during his tenure include East Greenwich High School being named the RIIAAA School of the year in 2013 and 2016. Other noteworthy accomplishments include: EGHS becoming a pilot school for unified sports in Rhode Island, winning Unified Volleyball National Championships in both 2012 and 2013, and having Rhode Island’s, first Wendy’s Heisman National Male Athlete of the Year.
In addition, to these personal and school accolades, Chris takes great pride in the success of EGHS individual athletes, coaches and programs during his tenure. Some of those accomplishments include:
● Rhode Island Gatorade Baseball Player of the year 2011
● Rhode Island Gatorade Football Player of the year 2015
● 26 State and National Championships
● Many 1st and 2nd team All-state Athletes
● Coaches who have won state and/or national Coach of the Year recognition
● Close to 70% student athlete participation at EGHS
East Greenwich High School has graduated several athletes to Colleges or Universities at all 3 levels of the NCAA, some of which have received athletic scholarships to continue their career.
Chris takes great pride in serving the coaches and student athletes of East Greenwich and being a small piece of this great community. Furthermore, he knows that this is all not possible if it were not for the professional support of his fellow Administrators at EG public schools. On a personal note he is grateful for the love and support that his family and friends have given him during the past 8 years.
