Week of 2-6-2017

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Action Items:
  • ATTN: Junior Parents and Guardians SAT Non-Participation Form Submit by: 2-8 For the 2016-17 School Year, the State of Rhode Island is covering the cost of April’s administration of the school day SATs for all 11th graders.  All 11th grade students at East Greenwich High School will be registered for the test unless the SAT Non-participation form (click here) is returned to the guidance office by Wednesday, February 8.
  • SurveyWorks- Parent Survey Window to Opens today 2/6 The Rhode Island Department of Education is currently administering its yearly SurveyWorks Parent Survey, which is an opportunity for parents to provide feedback about our school and our children’s opportunities to learn.  The survey results are most useful when all parents participate, so I am writing to ask you to participate in this survey.  Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey you can help our school leadership and our parent-teacher organization to make improvements to our school. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you. You can take the short survey online or on paper between February 6th and March 31. To take the survey, visit: surveys.panoramaed.com/ride and enter 09106family.  If you don’t have access to the Internet, please contact the high school at 401-398-1574 to request a paper survey.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
This week’s “Food for Thought” is an article from the Economist entitled “High-Pressure Parenting” which takes a look at some trends involving parenting and child rearing in the 21st century-“The trend toward spending more time with one’s offspring is especially strange given that better-educated, better-paid parents are not spending less time at work; on the contrary, they are spending more, both in absolute terms and relative to the working time of less-educated households. High-income parents are instead spending less time on other personal activities, including sleep. The question is: why?”
I hope you had a great weekend (and if you are a Patriots fan like I am- congratulations!).
