IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank you...
A quick thank you for every member of the EGHS community who goes above and beyond to support our students with Senior Project. Whether acting as a mentor, a community judge, or pushing and supporting students in their independent “learning stretches” the number of amazing projects could not happen without your guidance and support. Thank you.
ATTN: Junior Parents and Guardians SAT Non-Participation Form
For the 2016-17 School Year, the State of Rhode Island is covering the cost of April’s administration of the school day SATs for all 11th graders.  All 11th grade students at East Greenwich High School will be registered for the test unless the SAT Non-participation form (click here) is returned to the guidance office by Wednesday, February 8.
SurveyWorks- Parent Survey Window to Open 2/6
The Rhode Island Department of Education is currently administering its yearly SurveyWorks Parent Survey, which is an opportunity for parents to provide feedback about our school and our children’s opportunities to learn.  The survey results are most useful when all parents participate, so I am writing to ask you to participate in this survey.
Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey you can help our school leadership and our parent-teacher organization to make improvements to our school. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you.
You can take the short survey online or on paper between February 6th and March 31. To take the survey, visit: surveys.panoramaed.com/ride and enter 09106family.  If you don’t have access to the Internet, please contact the high school at 401-398-1574 to request a paper survey.
EGHS Student Needs Your Votes
EGHS Sophomore Emma MacDonald has entered “AFS: Project Change”. The winner of this contest will travel, along with 9 runner-ups, to complete their service project on full scholarship. However, in order to make it to the final judging round, she needs as many votes as she can get. She is hoping that her school and community will vote for her every day through February 7th. To see Ms. MacDonald’s submission and to cast your vote please click here.
Reminder: AP Capstone- Community Information Session 2/7 (Action Requested)
I will be giving an overview of the AP Capstone Program on Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30 in the EGHS Auditorium. Parents and guardians of current freshmen and sophomores who are interested in learning more about the program are asked to please register on Eventbrite by clicking here. By registering you are helping us insure that enough materials are created and available for all of the evening’s attendees.

We will issue second quarter report cards to all students on Wednesday, February 1 during the advisory block. Digital copies of report cards will also be published to the parent portal of ASPEN.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
With report cards being distributed Wednesday, this week’s “Food for Thought” is a blog post entitled “The Emotional Weight of Being Graded, for Better or Worse” I think it is a timely reminder that it is not just what the grade, number or comment on  a report card says about what students have learned, but what the individual students feel about the grade, number or comment. The intrinsic value students may or may not attach to a mark is ultimately what drives a grade’s value to the student. Please consider having this conversation with your child when reviewing this term’s report cards this week.
As always, I thank you for your support of East Greenwich High School and our mission.
