EGHS News and Information!

A weekly newsletter with information about upcoming events related to East Greenwich High School
EGHS Front Empower.png
In an effort to increase the dissemination of important information about upcoming events occurring at East Greenwich High School, I have created this newsletter which will be sent out to the EGHS school community once a week via the EGHS announcements email.
Also in an effort to not inundate your email inboxes, the EGHS main office will make every attempt to send only one email a day. It is our intention to have all announcements, information, links etc. in that email, so please review the daily email in it’s entirety so that opportunities are not overlooked.
Hope you find this a useful tool in navigating this school year.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Proctors needed for PSATs on 10/19- While we are pleased that the State is funding the PSATs for all Sophomores on 10/19 and we encourage all members of the Class of 2019 to take advantage of this opportunity, running this exam is not without its logistical challenges. Due to the fact that the exam administration is during the school day and that teaching and learning must continue for all students who are not involved in the PSATs, we are in need of additional proctors for the PSATs. In order to fulfill this need we would like to enlist the support of the EGHS school community. If you are interested in proctoring, AND have a current BCI on file with the school department, AND do not have a child who will be participating in the exam-- we ask that you email Ann-Marie Flaherty at aflaherty@egsd.net with the subject line of “PROCTOR 10-19”. Mrs. Flaherty will be able to provide detailed information about proctoring as well as answer any questions you may have. Proctors do receive payment for their services.
  • Live listing of Colleges and Universities visiting EGHS- The EGHS Guidance Department has created a live document that lists all of the Colleges and Universities visiting East Greenwich High School during the 2016-17 school year. To view the list please click here. I would encourage you and your child to check this list every once in awhile as the list does change periodically. Finally, please encourage your child to sign up well in advance of a visit so that the guidance department can schedule the appropriate space and distribute passes to students.

On behalf of the faculty and staff at East Greenwich High School, it is my pleasure to invite you to join us at our annual Open House on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. We will begin the evening in the Auditorium where Mr. Chace and I will meet with parents to give an overview of the many exciting developments occurring at EGHS this year.  At 6:25 p.m. we will transition to the classroom portion of the evening where you will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet your child’s teachers.  During Advisory on Wednesday, students will be asked to fill out schedules and room locations and give them to you so you can navigate the evening. FOOD FOR THOUGHT
In this newly created section of the newsletter I am highlighting one article, video, resource, practice, theory, etc. relating to ideas in teaching/learning/education today that I also have shared in my weekly emails to EGHS faculty and staff. While what is shared is generally something that pushes the boundaries, or calls for a re-examination of existing and traditional practices in education, it is not meant to serve as an endorsement or a denouncement of current practices, rather it is meant to serve as a resource for reflection, hopefully generating the always useful introspective question of “What if…?”
If nothing else, I hope you find the posts as thought provoking as I do and that they may stoke the fires of the East Greenwich High School mission that says “We take risks in order to inspire learning and discover passions.”
This week’s “Food for Thought” is a brief Will Richardson’s blog post- Learning the Change
