Two EGHS Students "Inspire Greatness"

I am pleased to share with the EGHS community the accomplishments of students Matt Cruise and Kim Whittaker.  They will be recognized by Rhode Island Special Olympics at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 Special Olympics of RI Summer Games on Friday May 31st at Meade Stadium, University of Rhode Island. Below is a brief description I received from Ms. Whittaker that outlines their impressive work.

Special Olympics will be recognizing me and other EGHS student, Matt Cruise, on May 31st at the opening ceremonies for Special Olympics. The award we are receiving is called the "Inspire Greatness" award. Matt has been involved in the Special Olympics Youth Activation for the past two years now, and this year he was co-president of the organization. Matt has also been a partner on the EGHS Unified Volleyball team for the past three years. All of the athletes and members of the Special Olympics team look up to him for his dedication and kindness towards EVERY child with disabilities. I, Kim Whittaker, have been on the Youth Activation Committee this past year as the co-chair of my region. I have also been a partner on the Unified Volleyball team for the past two years and have been an officer with the Best Buddies program at EGHS (which is partnering with Special Olympics). Due to our involvement, we are receiving this award which is described as an award for "individuals who have made a difference in the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities."

Our congratulations go out to both Kim and Matt.  We are very proud of both of you!
