Spanish 5 Class Creates Newspaper

SeƱora Pontarelli's Spanish 5 class worked very hard this year to create a newspaper.  All students were involved in the creation of the paper, they wrote the articles, edited them, and put them together to make this final product!

¡Enhorabuena, clase!

Two EGHS Students "Inspire Greatness"

I am pleased to share with the EGHS community the accomplishments of students Matt Cruise and Kim Whittaker.  They will be recognized by Rhode Island Special Olympics at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 Special Olympics of RI Summer Games on Friday May 31st at Meade Stadium, University of Rhode Island. Below is a brief description I received from Ms. Whittaker that outlines their impressive work.

Special Olympics will be recognizing me and other EGHS student, Matt Cruise, on May 31st at the opening ceremonies for Special Olympics. The award we are receiving is called the "Inspire Greatness" award. Matt has been involved in the Special Olympics Youth Activation for the past two years now, and this year he was co-president of the organization. Matt has also been a partner on the EGHS Unified Volleyball team for the past three years. All of the athletes and members of the Special Olympics team look up to him for his dedication and kindness towards EVERY child with disabilities. I, Kim Whittaker, have been on the Youth Activation Committee this past year as the co-chair of my region. I have also been a partner on the Unified Volleyball team for the past two years and have been an officer with the Best Buddies program at EGHS (which is partnering with Special Olympics). Due to our involvement, we are receiving this award which is described as an award for "individuals who have made a difference in the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities."

Our congratulations go out to both Kim and Matt.  We are very proud of both of you!

Students Help Beautify EGHS & Come Away With a Business

Faculty & staff entering and leaving EGHS have been witnesses to a gradual, but dramatic change. Students from Mr. Doucette's classes have taken it upon themselves to improve the landscaping around the outside of EGHS.
The project, brought to fruition through student initiative and community donations, has transformed a boring walkway and building exterior, into a bright and inviting environment (complete with decking).
The students, energized by this project have taken it further and now have created a business out of the venture, complete with it's own Website (you can view before and after pictures in the site's gallery)

Thank you to Mr. Doucette and all of the EGHS students for their initiative & hard work on this project!

Arabic Club Celebrates End of the School Year in Providence

From Ms. O'Day-
Here are some pics of Arabic Club students and our professor, Henry Chango, at the new Moroccan cafe in Providence.  We drank mint tea and feasted on Tagine and Couscous.  The name of the cafe is Tea in Sahara.  It was a great way to culminate the year.

As We Enter Prom & Graduation Season; CWC Public Service Announcement

Encouraging students to make positive choices is something we ASPIRE to do on a daily basis at EGHS.   This time of year the number of opportunities to celebrate individual and collective accomplishments increases dramatically, and so it is more important than ever that students make decisions that have a positive impact on their futures.  It is with this in mind that I  implore all EGHS students to watch, listen and reflect on the messages in the video below and to consider the impact of their actions as we enter the Prom and Graduation season.
Special thanks to the members of the East Greenwich Citizens Who Care, the brave men and women of the EGPD and State Police, and our graduates who continue to care and give back to the EGHS community.
